This reminds me that I need to finish my 2016 computer project. That I never actually bought a GPU for.

yeah prices looking good right about now.

That 6th gen i7 should still be good for a few more years.

hey, I’m still running a haswell Xeon with a GTX 950.. you saying my pc is junk? hahaha I really need a GPU..

The P100 is nice, but the front is a little too shiny for my tastes. I prefer the matte/non-reflective fronts...

It’s going to be a quadro, so it never was going to be too horribly pricey from bitcoin mining, only moderately.

How much can one expect to be paying here? I need to update my 4770k/ddr3 computer some, but maybe not go full 8700k prices (call it $600 for cpu, ram, mobo) ish.
![]() 05/21/2018 at 13:52 |

damn, I just sold a quadro k4200 for pennies...

tbh I wouldn’t bother upgrading that cause it’s still very much capable. DDR4 RAM prices are still insane but at least GPU prices are much better. Do you have an SSD? How much RAM do you currently have and which video card?
![]() 05/21/2018 at 13:56 |

more than good enough

not planning on replacing it any time soon

Shit, I’m still running on board video from my Asus P5e-vm-hdmi. Dual core Xeon at 3.0, with 4 gigs of ddr2, baby!

i have a GTX 560 if your PSU has 2x6 pin PCIe power and is at least 450W
bump up the RAM to 8GB and it’ll still be fine

It’s cool, it probably wasn’t a dwarf height one, which is what I want.

I’m RAM limited on a bunch of stuff I do. I have a 2 TB Samsung SSD, 24 GB ddr3, a GTX 1080 Ti. It feels painfully slow to encode a blu-ray. I might try it on my dell poweredge sitting in the corner with like, a billion cores of xeon goodness, but it’s so loud...
But I’d then need to rip the BR on my desktop, transfer 30-40 GB per to the server for encoding, and then get the movies back off. Seems like a lot. But maybe it’ll take less than 8 hours to encode a good copy.

I meant RAM bus limited. At least I think so.

Pfft. No RGB fans? Do you even computer bro?

my mouse is RGB does that count

ah, hm. i’d try to hold off until DDR4 prices come down to earth

nah it was full size.

According to the asus site it has:
1 x PCI-E x16
2 x PCI-E x1
1 x PCI
So I’m unsure if that card would work for me. You’d know better than I though.
PS is over 500 watts though, for sure. Need to grab s’more ram one of these days which should wake it up a bit. The Spectre patch seemed to hit this thing particularly hard. Went from somewhat snappy to wow this is a pig, seemingly overnight.
Edit: just realized you were talking about the PSU power outs when you mentioned pinouts, not the mobo sockets. Lol, n00b.
Unsure if my psu has those outputs on it. I’ll have to double-check, but I kinda doubt it does.

Soon I will finally get around to building a new PC. Wish Fractal Design made a version of the Define Mini C with a USB type C port (would be super cool if case manufactures in general worried more about features and silence instead of RGB lighting). Also would be great if DDR4 prices cratered in the next month or so. I think I paid $114 for my 16GB of DDR3 in 2011, so paying $300-400 for 32GB of DDR4 is a tough pill to swallow.

Prices are coming down! Quite possibly I should have sold my 1070 when they were high and used the money to buy a 1080 now.

I’ve been using the less shiny P182 for over a decade:
Finally ready to move on but disappointed with the paucity of both Micro ATX cases (this seems like the best size, almost no one needs ATX anymore, but Mini ITX seems too limiting), and cases with USB type C ports.

Just popped the tower open and had a look. It’s a Cooler Master RP 650, which apparently has the two 6 pin connectors and 650 watts of oomph.

you’re in US right? if you want that GTX 560 shoot me an email nibby4wd@gmail.com

Assuming all looks compatible, let me know what ya need for the gtx 560 and I can paypal it to you or something of the sort. I’ve been meaning to upgrade this thing for a while now, and this should really help I’d imagine.

fractal design makes some of the best clean cases out there.
i paid $110 for 32GB DDR4 RAM in 2016 and the same link on newegg is $332

That’ll work, shipping is what it is, unfortunately. Will send an email shortly. Thanks!

Still not bad! I’m running a first gen Core i7 with 9 GB of RAM. It’s got to be at least 8 years old now. I don’t really game, so as long as it keeps running...

ye and if you have an SSD all the more better
![]() 05/22/2018 at 08:32 |

I do. An Intel 240 GB. The machine is sounding a bit rough on occasion. A few weeks ago it failed to boot, but thankfully rolling back to a previous restore point fixed it.

ayyyy, we have the exact same graphics cards! Although I didn’t clean mine or apply new thermal paste, because I didn’t know that was a thing for graphics cards. Do you just take the plastic fan shroud off and clean the heat sink fin thingys?
